                      LANCE CORPORAL JAMES F. JORDAN

                    UNITED STATES MARINE CORPS

For service as set forth in the following

    CITATION:

"For meritorious service while serving as a Squad Leader with
Company G, Second Battalion, First Marrines, First Marine Division  in connection with
combat operations against the enemy in the Republic of Vietnam from 20 August 1968
to 11 July 1969. Throughout this period, Lance Corporal Jordan performed his duties in an exemplary manner. Participating in Operations Meade River and Pipestone Canyon as well as in over 200 combat patrols and ambushes, he repeatedly distinguished himself by his courage and composure under fire. Demonstrating exceptional professional ability, he skillfully supervised the tactical deployment of his men during engagements with the enemy and contributed significantly to the accomplishment of his unit's mission. On 2 June 1969, Company G became heavily engaged by a North Vietnamese Army force. Reacting instantly, he ably maneuvered his men into advantageous firing positions, delivered accurate fire on the hostile emplacements, killed four enemy soldiers and captured a small quantity of military equipment. Constantly concerned for the combat readiness of his unit, he tirelessly trained his men and molded them into an effective fighting force. By his leadership, professional competence and steadfast devotion to duty, Lance Corporal Jordan upheld the finest traditions of the Marine Corps and of the United States Naval Service."
The Combat Distinguishing Device is authorized.
