For outstanding achievement in the superior performance of his duties in the field of leadership achievement as set forth in the following
CITATION:
“While serving as a Squad Leader with Company F, Second Battalion, First Marines, First Marine Division in connection with operations against the enemy in the Republic of Vietnam from 8 November 1967 to 6 December 1968, Corporal Renteria performed his duties in an exemplary manner. Participating in seven major combat operations, including Operations Kentucky, Pegasus and Napoleon/Saline, he repeatedly distinguished himself by his courage and composure under fire. Demonstrating exceptional professional ability, he skillfully directed the tactical deployment of his men and repeatedly exposed himself to intense hostile fire as he supervised his men. Constantly concerned for the combat readiness of his unit, he tirelessly trained his men and molded them into an effective fighting force.
