The President of the United States takes pleasure in presenting the
BRONZE STAR MEDAL to
HOSPITAL CORPSMAN THIRD CLASS
ROBERT M. ADAMS
UNITED STATES NAVY
For service as set forth in the following
CITATION:
"For heroic achievement in connection with combat operations on 11 May 1968, while serving as a Corpsman with company G, 2d Battalion, 1st Marines in the Republic of Vietnam. The company was conducting a search and destroy mission near the Khe Sanh Combat Base when it came under enemy mortar fire. Without regard for his own safety. Petty Officer Adams rushed across open terrain and began treating a seriously wounded Marine. Realizing he was in an exposed position and unable to move t.he wounded Marine to a safer location, he shielded his patient with his own body. Only when the enemy fire had stopped did he uncover the Marine and move him to the casualty collection point with the assistance of others. By his selflessness, courage, and complete dedication to duty Petty Officer Adams reflected great credit upon himself and upheld the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service."
The Combat Distinguishing Device is authorized.
For the President
Richard V. Spencer
